MEDICINA VIAJANDO
This series of images documents a traveling medical and dental clinic that provided help to underserved areas of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The group was made up of American doctors, dentists, and pharmacists that spent their vacation time on the cause

Two beat-up passenger vans made up the caravan of crew and supplies. In each village, the clinic would set up in whatever public space was offered up; almost always a school or church. The woman above waits her turn on the first church pew.

No one likes the dentist. Especially not for the first time. This young lady is getting some assistance from mom on opening up as she spotted a camera lens hovering above her.

The Waiting

This mother is waiting in line, desperate to speak to an American doctor about her baby's condition. She is holding a brain scan from a local hospital that shows her infant has Hydrocephalus; the buildup of fluid within the cavities of the brain.

Her baby was calm as she paced outside the clinic restlessly. Occasionally, a tiny hand would emerge to play with the texture on her shirt.

Organized and orderly lines were not really in the cards at these locations. Crowds would gather as close as possible to the entrances, sometimes, looking in and watching the procedures taking place inside of old storage rooms. The woman above tries her best to create some privacy.
